Beach Body Ready

This post is in no way me telling you how to get beach body ready, cause I have no idea how to do that. Instead it's about what I've decided to do for myself and maybe you'll see some tips you'd like to try for yourself.

I remember watching The Hills along time ago and Lauren Conrad was talking to her friend about how "your abs start in the kitchen." I never forgot that saying but definitely don't always follow it. I don't go to the gym as often as I'd like to, I'm lucky if I go 1-2 days a week. I try to eat healthy as much as possible but I tend to be a binger. Chips are one of my weaknesses and I can sit and watch TV with my hand in the chip bag and before I know it half the bag is gone. Working night shift doesn't help either. You don't get to eat till 1 am and then eat snacks throughout the night in an attempt to stay awake.

I went to Costco on Sunday and decided to only buy things that are "healthy" that way I won't feel the urge to eat any junk food because it won't be in the house. I wanted to buy food that I can eat at home and take to work that are simple and easy.

This salmon is fantastic for a number of reasons. First, it's Wild Caught and you're supposed to eat wild versus farm raised salmon. The farm raised salmon are fed corn meal and lack Omega-3 fatty acids. Second, you can microwave it! It's perfect to take to work because I just put it in my lunch bag before I leave the house and it's thawed by lunch time then pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes or so when I'm ready to eat it. Third, I'm not sure what the marinade it's in but it's delicious! Take some greens with you to lunch top it with salmon and drizzle on some olive oil and balsamic vinegar and you've got an easy, nutritious, and delicious meal!

I'm a sucker for all things Organic so when I saw these I knew I had to try them. These burritos are Organic, made with all natural ingredients, I can't find any preservatives on the ingredient list, low in fat and sodium, and only 290 calories each. (I know they say 310 calories in the website but on my box I have it says 290 so we'll go with the lower number :) ) You also heat these up in the microwave and they taste divine! Like real authentic Mexican food.

If you haven't jumped on the belVita train you need to ASAP. I know they are called breakfast biscuits but I eat them in the place of cookies. They are made with whole grains, have 3 grams of fiber, and have a yummy butteryness flavor to them. You get 4 in a pack for 230 calories. So I say you get 4 belVita cookies for the same amount of calories as 2 regular cookies. Blueberry is my favorite flavor but they only sell Cinnamon and Brown Sugar at my Costco.

I was so happy when they started to sell these at Costco. These are the best snack bar to eat. They are about 200 calories each and made with only nuts and fruits. They also keep me full for along time because of the protein from the nuts. I got a box of 18 for about $15. Kind bars are still my ultimate favorite fruit and nut bar but they are expensive at $2 a piece. So Lara bars have taken their place.

I either eat this or eggs for breakfast every morning. This cereal keeps me full till lunch time, has 3 grams of fiber, and low in sodium and fat. I also use almond milk instead of regular milk for my "low-dairy" diet. I recommend all of the Cascadian Farms cereal, they're all delicious.

I'm not a huge salad eater so I like to "drink" my salads. I make a yummy healthy smoothie if I feel I haven't eaten a lot of greens lately.
I call it a Green Smoothie.
I add 1-2 handfuls of spinach or any other leafy green vegetable into a blender, add about 1/2-1 cup of frozen berries, 2 tablespoons of Organic Ground Flax Seed (Flax Seed is great because it has Omega-3 fatty acids for your heart and skin and a ton of fiber. Whenever I eat Flax Seed I see such a difference in my skin.) I'll either pour in water or almond milk, just eye ball it. Enough to make everything covered in liquid. Then to make the smoothie sweet I'll squirt in some honey or you could use agave nectar or any other sweetener you have on hand. Turn on the blender and blend until the smoothie is a nice, even, thick consistency.

  1. Umm seriously I want to buy ALL of this at Costco! I think you just created an errand I need to run this weekend. Especially the PJ's skinny burritos!!

  2. So many great suggestions - especially the salmon! I definitely need to eat better. This post has inspired me to start today!
