Thoughts on Thursday

by Ally Harding, 8:53 AM
Since I started this blog I've always hesitated telling people about it. Not that I'm ashamed of it but that I just don't know how people are going to react. Theo is always telling people "Ally has a blog!! You need to check it out!!" Then they look at me with a blank stare and say "You do? What do you write about? Who reads it? Why don't you have it on Facebook?" Before answering them I think to myself "hmm..what do I write about? Well, myself?!" I mean isn't that what a blog is basically you writing about your life and your opinions? So then I tell them "Well, I write about my day, what I want, reviews on things....errr..yah." It's ALWAYS kind of awkward and sounds like I'm very narcissistic. They then ask for the website and I tell them and sometimes they check it out and sometimes they don't, and that's fine. I really do wish more of my friends and family read my blog but whenever I tell them about it I get the above conversation and it's very awkward and they just kind of laugh about it.

I guess what I'm trying to get across is what do you guys tell your friends and family about your blog? Is it the first thing you mention to someone or do you wait and bring it up at an opportune time? Or do you not tell anyone at all? I honestly feel like I'm living a double life with my blog since a lot of people don't know about it. I spend all of this time writing a post, which I really do enjoy, and no one I know actually know reads it. Theo reads it occasionally if he gets a free minute at work and I know a few friends do but that's about it. It's mainly you guys, which is great, I love having other bloggers read my posts, it's very flattering.

I think it's easier having someone you don't know to read your blog because they don't judge you for who you are. Someone I know may very well read my blog and think "this doesn't sound like Ally! I didn't know she felt this way!" Where as someone I don't "know" except through the blog world only knows me from my posts. So to them what they read about me is who I am.

Sorry for the rant. This is just a topic that has been coming up a lot lately and is going to more as time goes on. Blogging is new to me so telling people about my blog is out of my comfort zone. If you have some advice sent it my way!!

Ok, on to something else. How gorgeous is this dress??

I spotted it on French Cuff Boutique blog and can't get it out of my mind! I really love the whole outfit. Shoes and bag. I just wish I had somewhere coming up to wear it to!

Can you guess who this is?!
Ok, I just realized her name is on the picture. That was dumb.
Anyways, she looks different right?? Hopefully this isn't her new "look" post Clooney!
Honestly, she still looks great though. I don't think she can take a bad picture.

Have you guys heard about DOGTV yet? It's a channel for dogs! Yes, you read that right. Because our dogs are evidently getting bored now and need something to watch on tv! I'm not sure if it's just a Directv thing or if everyone can get it but we're getting a free trial of it now.
It's really trippy. Like it'll just show a dog sleeping or running water or a ball just jumping around the screen. It's kind of soothing in a way.
Pixie was very mesmerized by it. She does like to watch tv normally but always jumps at the screen whenever a dog is on tv. Or any animal at all. In fact, she even jumps at Brian on Family Guy! How she knows he's a dog is beyond me, he's a cartoon and he stands on his hind legs!!
Theo made a video of Pixie watching it. You can't tell too well but he said there were "monkeys with pink butts on tv" so not even dogs.

I think they need a Disclaimer for dogs that are hyperactive to not watch the channel. We would seriously come home to a wrecked house if we left it on for Pixie all day!!

  1. Oh my gosh ally I feel the same way about telling people about my blog! Haha no one knows about it other than my boyfriend... I'm happy I'm not the only one who feels awkward about telling my friends about it.
    Life with Baby Sophia

  2. I feel the exact same way about my blog!! I try to make it sound like I do it for work...but it is personal too! I don't share it with many friends- I mean they know about it and how to find it. But I don't know if any of them read it! I try NOT to mention it! :) Glad I am not the only one!

  3. So funny because I feel the exact same way about my blog! My bf, family, and best friends know about it, but that's about it.
So excited about Dog TV! I had no idea, and I am definitely going to check it out for my little pup (I always leave the TV on for her when she has to be alone, but this is even better) ;)

  4. THAT is Stacey Keibler?! Wow doesn't look like her at all.

I also hesitate to tell people about my blog. Somehow I ended up mentioning it to my boss and now she comments on some of my post! Kind of weird but it's great to know you have support from the people in your life as well :)

  5. I read about dogTV the other day and I think it's hilarious! I feel the same way about my blog. I don't tell many people about it because it feels so personal - yet I love having a blogging community read it. I already have enough of my life out in public on Facebook I figure this can be my little secret for now :) There are links on my page in the about section but you have to go looking for it.

  6. I'm that same way about telling people about my blog. My close friends generally know that I have a blog, but I don't actively tell them about it or include it in my life much. I do at times make them stop to let me take a nice picture with my DSLR for the blog :)

  7. Haha, I love this post! I'm in the same situation. I have only told very few people - like 5 people and 4 of them are family. I don't know why it just feels awkward saying it and if people don't read blogs you get this strange look from them like "....ok". I think I've decided that my blog will just be my little secret, at least until I don't feel so weird mentioning it to others :). Btw -- I love your blog and the posts so far!

I love reading your comments! Thanks for taking the time to read my blog!
