3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Review

by Ally Harding, 5:00 AM
Let me just say I had every intention of waking up at 7 am Sunday morning to be at Target right when they opened at 8 am to try all of the Phillip Lim clothes on. Well, we went to the USC game Saturday night and didn't get home till 1 am so when 7 am came around I just turned that alarm off. I didn't make it to Target till 3 pm, mainly because I debated if it would even be worth my while since I had read how everything sold out in minutes. I was wrong, there were a few things left at our Target. Unfortunately no handbags, which I was really looking forward to but a good amount of clothes. I picked up everything left that was a Small and headed to the dressing room.

I first tried on this Navy/Green Pullover $34.99. As I'm typing this it's still for sale on Target's website.

If I was going to buy it I would have definitely gotten a Medium. Honestly, the top felt cheap and I could tell was made from polyester. Whenever I moved my arms I had to constantly pull the top down so my midriff wouldn't show.

It's supposed to be paired with this Skirt but my Target was sold out of my size.

I just can't help but think of a Catholic school uniform when I see this outfit.
I guess it looks ok on Maria Sharapova but I still don't really care for it.

Next I tried on the Ruffle Tank $26.99. After the first blouse I figured the rest would be a bust but I was wrong and really loved this top!

I'm wearing a Small. It's a loose fitted blouse but I like that. Being white you worry about it being see through but it wasn't at all. It also comes in Navy but I preferred the white.

I showed Theo the pictures I took on my phone and he even said he liked this shirt a lot. It's still for sale in both colors on Target's website in all sizes.

I had picked up this Peplum Tank $39.99 in a Medium because that's all my Target had left. I'm glad I did because the Medium fit great.

It's really a well fitted top. You put it on like a jacket because it zips up in the middle. It's just very Springy to me and I have Fall on the brain.

This print also comes in a Dress version $39.99 which I would have bought had they had any left

And a Blouse version $29.99

The Peplum top and Dress are sold out online but the Blouse is still available in every size.

The one thing I was surprised was still in stock was the BOOM Sweatshirt $29.99.

I figured it would be sold out in minutes since Jessica Alba wore it

and it's a cheaper version of Phillip Lim's KA-POW Sweatshirt that retails for $425

I tried on a Small and if fit great. I could have worn a Medium if I wanted it to fit more loose but if you like how it fits on Jessica Alba I'd say get a Small. I would never wear a sweatshirt like this so personally I didn't care for it. Surprisingly it's still for sale on Target's website in all sizes.

The last thing I tried on and probably my favorite was the Sparkle Dress $49.99.
I tried on a Small and it fit perfect.

It's the cutest dress and so flattering. It needs to be ironed and has a pleat right down the middle, so no I'm not pregnant although it may look it. I don't know if you can tell from my horrible quality picture but it has silver sparkle on the right collar. It really gives it a nice added touch. This dress would be a perfect dress to wear to a wedding. This blue color, although very pretty, is very Spring/Summer to me so if I was going to buy it for now I'd get in the Black Version.
How cute would this be as a New Years Eve dress? Now that I'm looking at it again I'm wishing I had bought it! Luckily for me it's for sale online in both colors and all sizes.

So, I left empty handed. To me nothing had that "gotta have it now!" effect and I'm not just going to buy it because it's Phillip Lim for Target.

There were a few things I was specifically looking for that they were out of

Available online in all sizes
Peplum Top $34.99

Tuxedo Pant $39.99

I just read Peter Pilotto is going to be doing a Target Collaboration in February! Miranda Kerr and Brooklyn Decker are big fans of their's. And anything Brooklyn and Miranda do are perfection in my book. Can't wait for this line to come out!

  1. I heard bad things about the bags so I don't think you missed out on much! I like the idea of these collaborations but I think most of it just ends up looking cheap.

  2. I tried on that white tank with the ruffles and it did not look nearly as good on me as it does on you!! Can't believe you resisted- i'm impressed!

  3. That white ruffle tank looks amazing on you! Love seeing the clothes on a real person! Gorgeous!

  4. They all look amazing on you!
Super jealous over on this side of the pond as we dont have access to TARGET

  5. Love that you did this review. I feel the same way about the line though...nothing wowed me to where I need to have it. Oh well!

  6. I love the blouse! You have possibly convinced me to make a purchase.

  7. Totally in love with the blue blouse--great post!

  8. So glad you shared this review! I was thinking about ordering that blue and green top but now I think I'll hold off. I like the skirt they paired with it but I wouldn't wear them together, you're totally right it looks a little school-girlish!

  9. Thanks for this review! I haven't made it to target yet, I am trying to only shop for things I absolutely NEED this month (it's hard)...

I think you look great in everything you tried on! I love the Boom sweater!

  10. I LOVE this review! I am kind of dying for that animal print skirt or dress. I've been pretty unimpressed with the quality of most of Target's collaborations lately (and the prices for that matter. it's TARGET!) and haven't had a chance to make it to the store yet but have been wondering how this collection turned out! So glad that you did this post!

I love reading your comments! Thanks for taking the time to read my blog!
