Skincare Wishes

I'm always on the hunt for the best skin care regimen. You know the stuff that's supposed to work wonders on everyone and gets rid of and prevents wrinkles while not giving you acne. The acne part is hard to find, trust me. I use Alpha Hydrox AHA Enhanced Cream whenever I sleep and it does work but I can't help thinking there's something better out there. I've used Retin-A in the past and that was a mess. My Mom swears by it though. Let's just say the acne I had did not go away and my face was constantly peeling like a 3rd Degree sunburn. Oh, and speaking of sun, I wasn't even supposed to go out in the sun while using Retin-A. See it was a mess.

I had seen the Cate Blanchett adds for SK-II in magazines forever but never really looked into it.

That was until I saw this picture

Yikes! I guess I should have warned you all. So one of my girl crushes Brooklyn Decker posted this picture on her Instagram and I immediately thought "What kind of mask is she wearing because if Brooklyn's wearing it then I gotta wear it! wearing to make her look this ugly?"
It's the Facial Treatment Mask by SK-II.

Oh and they'll only cost you $28 a piece. I mean if you consider the price of a facial that really isn't that bad. I'm dying to try one of these masks. They're 100% cotton and full of vitamins, amino acids and minerals to refresh your skin. It's really for dry, dehydrated skin, which probably isn't good for my super oily skin. So I looked into their other products to see what would be good for my skin.

This is their best seller
This unique pitera-rich product moisturizes to improve texture and clarity for a more beautiful, glowing complexion. It also helps stimulate the natural renewal process of the skin's outer layer to rebalance and bring harmony to your skin. Women are so passionate about it that they describe it as their 'holy water.' It contains over 90% pure pitera, the seemingly magical ingredient found in all SK-II products. Rely on it daily to moisturize instantly and renew skin's surface for a smoother texture. Skin absorbs the benefits almost on contact. The result is supple, smooth, radiant skin.
Yes, please!

Kate Bosworth is their ambassdor, and HELLO have you seen her skin?!

She uses the Facial Treatment Essence and Cellumination Cream which has great reviews for brightening your skin and getting rid of scars.

All their products really do have great reviews. They aren't cheap though and would be hard to maintain.

Then there's La Mer. Another face cream that is uber expensive but supposed to work miracles.

Evidently it even works great for your dog's butt??! Yes, this was an actual review I found
"The wife loves La Mer products, I occasionally use it when my face gets chapped. It doesn't give me zits. Our Great Dane dog gets a raw butt sometimes from whatever, and it clears that right up as well. Yes, we use La Mer on our dog's butt. Its that good. (not directly on the spokes, just on his butt region)"

Aside from it being great for your dog's butt?! it's supposed to give you a clear, even complexion while fading fine lines.

I've been using a few Shiseido products recently that I just happened to find at TJ Maxx. I've really been very happy with the results and looked into more of their anti-wrinkle creams that also help with acne.
This may be it.
Shiseido's multi-action formula is designed to intensively correct visible pores, breakouts, blemish marks and skin roughness. It renews your skin's surface, giving you incredibly smooth skin with uniform texture while keeping you completely moisturized.

It won't break the bank either at $45 a bottle.

For a really cheap alternative Neutrogena's Anti Wrinkle Anti Blemish Cream has fantastic reviews.

It's only $10 and has Retinol for anti wrinkle and Salicylic Acid for acne prevention.

So these are some uber expensive and not so expensive options. Maybe I'll eventually try something on the high end but for now I'll stick to my cheap ($7!)Alpha Hydrox.

  1. I've been looking at skin care products recently and it's overwhelming! There are so many to choose from and it's hard to know where to start, so thank you for the ideas! :)
I'm not getting any younger ;) so I've started looking at the night/eye/anti-wrinkle creams and even some of the drugstore ones come with a big price tag! So it's nice to read you've found some moderately priced onces that still have good reviews!

  2. I used to work at a dermatology office so I got all the super pricey skincare products either free or half price...now that I'm not there I can't afford them! So I'm always looking for a deal. I don't think the products have to be pricey to be effective. Topix Pharm (can buy at skinstore.com) has some great products at great prices. I think a retinol at night helps the most for me and a good face wash with my clarisonic!

  3. Have you ever checked out the beautypedia: http://www.paulaschoice.com/beautypedia/

It gives ratings and reviews for so many different products. It's interesting what they have to say about a lot of the expensive "miracle" products, a lot of them apparently aren't as amazing as they claim to be...at least according to them and their analysis of the ingredients. I used to use La Mer...but I honestly didn't notice any difference in my skin using it compared to using cheaper stuff. Granted, I've always had good skin and I'm young so I'm not battling too many lines yet! For now I just jojoba oil and laura mercier tinted moisturizer in and the morning, and coconut oil and olay regenerist deep hydration cream at night, and I'm pretty happy with my skin! I looove using natural oils on my skin, and I love how cheap they are! For the time being, I'm saving my spending money for clothes over skincare. I do enjoy trying samples of the expensive stuff though!

  4. Let me know if you try that mask! I'm willing to splurge on a little home spa day. Or we can double date and vino while we wait for it to make our pores perfect.

  5. There is no way I could try those expensive options because I would always want them!! I have been pretty lucky in the skincare department. Aside from a dry nose (weird? tmi?) my skin is pretty good to me!!

  6. That face mask is scary! I think the reaction on her face is not helping either! haha!
I wish I could try La Mer.... I've always wanted to try it but there's no way I'm spending that much on a cream. What if I end up liking it so much I can only use that one?! And what's up with their packaging? For that price, you would expect a much more luxurious looking pot.
Neutrogena is always a winner in my book :)

  7. I am such a skincare product junkie and I'm always looking for my next "fix" :) I was using BioOil as a moisturizer for several months and was really happy with it -- using something different now, but as soon as I'm out I will be returning to BioOil. My dream product to find would be something to reduce my eye wrinkles!
