Weekend + 1st week of octNOber

It's almost been a full week of OctNOber and I figured I'd do a summary of how it's going. I probably tortured myself by doing this but I went to TJ Maxx / Marshall's with a friend on Friday. You're probably thinking "Ok, what's the big deal? Those stores are so hit or miss." Well, we went to a different TJ Maxx than the one 10 minutes from my house. Locals it's the Mt. Pleasant one, and they have the Runway at the Maxx clothing and let me just say it was extremely hard not to buy anything. Just to give an example how of great the stuff was they had these Valentino boots.

Unfortunately not my size. Even if the stars has aligned and they were my size and it wasn't OctNOber, I still would have passed on them. But they were gorgeous!

So I still don't know why I tortured myself and went shopping but I did. I didn't try a thing on and that was a smart idea because once you try stuff on they say you have taken ownership to it and then feel like you have to buy it.

We left there and ended up at a store called Vertical Designs. It's owned by the guy who runs the estate sales I go to and I had always seen an advertisement at the end of the estate sales emails but had never checked out the store. It's the coolest store. All mid-century modern decor.

An awesome room full of 1950's-60's kids toys

I loved this little sitting room set up.

The white fluffy rugs unfortunately weren't for sale but they were all throughout the store. I was obsessed with them.

Love this dining room set. White fluffy rug again!

 Gorgeous Lucite table.

Then I spotted this picture

Well technically my friend spotted it's brother first. The one she spotted was horizontal, had a black background and the boat was little different. She went to look at the tag and we both assumed it was going to be $250-$300. It was $75 and she asked the sales lady what the green dot mean't on the tag? She said "oh it's 50% off!" I said "what about the vertical one?" She said "they're both 50% off." We both said "We"ll take them!" So she went home with the black one and I went home with the olive green one. Ok, I know I'm going against OctNOber but I did actually say I was still going to allow myself to buy home stuff and come on, this piece is one of a kind and looks awesome in my dining room. It's handmade string art.

I was so happy to bring it home and put it on the wall in the dining room.

I love that it's the first thing you see when you walk in the house.

I have to show an up close picture.

It's so gorgeous in person. I was worried Theo wasn't going to like it and give me hell for buying since I wasn't supposed to buy a thing. He loved it too but he did say technically I shouldn't have bought it since I made a pact with myself.  My intention of OctNOber was to stop from buying meaningless clothing that I don't need. If I find a great home piece for half off I'm sorry, I'm not going to let it pass me by. OctNOber is refraining from spending money on something you spend waaayy too much money on. Maybe you're not a shopper but spend a lot of money on Starbucks. Or maybe you go to Barnes and Noble daily and spend money on books that just end up sitting on the shelf. I know a lot of people are guilty of going out to $10 lunches everyday and think how much money you'd save if you started packing your own lunch. It's whatever you want to give up.

Friday night we went to see Gravity.

The group we saw it with had mixed reviews but personally I thought it was awesome. You have to see it in 3-D to get the full effect. It isn't 3-D in the way stuff pops out at you, you just feel like you're in space. The CGI was incredible and the views of space were amazing. They kept the camera constantly moving, to simulate no gravity, so you feel like you're moving too. The plot is so so, basically Sandra Bullock get's lost in space. The effects are what did it for me. I highly recommend everyone see it.

Saturday Theo, Pixie and I went to eat lunch at Taco Boy. It was hot, 86 degrees, but still a beautiful day.

We watched the USC/ Kentucky game Saturday night.
Back to work Sunday night!

What did you guys do this weekend?
