Rome wasn't built in a day...

This is what I keep telling myself about our house. We moved in our house last May and although our living room is pretty finished, our breakfast nook and kitchen are too, and the dining room is finally coming together, the upstairs is a mess. Don't even get me started on our bedroom. Let me just say I still live out of my closet and there isn't a thing on our walls. One of our guest rooms was being used by Theo's mom for a few months awhile back so her stuff is still in there. Our 2nd guest room was always my "project room" and the one room I knew I could put all white bedding in and make it how I'd want to it look without having to ask Theo's opinion. I finally got it somewhat decent but there's so much more I'd love to do. Then in the back of my mind is "we're going to have a baby in the next few years so why am I even wasting my time getting this room decorated?" I know find some real problems right?

The room so far

Don't worry getting a bed skirt is at the top of my list.

The bedside table with the ginger jar I found at an estate sale.

The room has no many big walls and I don't know what to put on any of them without it looking cluttered.

I wish I had loads of money to hire an interior decorator to do it all!

But since I don't this is what I'm thinking of doing

Guest room

Adding some white curtains to the window, getting a blue area rug, getting 2 white fluffy faux sheepskin rugs from Ikea, and putting orange decorative pillows on the bed along with a monogrammed "H" pillow. I only have one bedside table to I'll probably get a small side table and put some pictures on it and a few random books. Then to even out the big wall, I'll put 2 smaller pictures on either side of the sunburst mirror.

Pretty basic I know and most of the stuff is from Target so I think it's definitely achievable.

I want to hear y'alls opinions. Any recommendations, it looks great or it's completely hidious so stick to nursing?

  1. Very cute! And some of those things are totally affordable AND would transition well to future nursery :) Always good to have a plan!

  2. I'm with you - we moved in 3 months ago and I want it to be all done. Which is strange because I enjoy the decorating process so much, but I'm rushing it! I hate unfinished rooms but you're right, Rome wasn't built in a day!

  4. Your inspiration is gorgeous! It will get there, it just takes time like you said. We've lived in our home for 2 years and there's still a lot we'd love to do

  6. Love the plan!! I really like that rug and I love the ginger jar! I say go ahead and decorate and then you can decorate it again when you need a nursery :) If it makes you feel better we've been living in our house since last February and we bought it with the intention of renovating the kitchen, floors, basement, and bathrooms and we are just now getting started. Since I've been waiting for the renovations to start I have done zero decorating, it's soo depressing and is hard but I know it's better to wait and save the money to do what we want to do instead of just decorating just because I want to get it done. The title of your post is so true and what I keep trying to tell myself.

  7. I like that look!! Its great- easy and simple. Definitely achievable. It'll be cozy and livable which I love in a room. We've been in our house for a year and a half and are still not nearly done! :)

  8. I think your plan looks great! No reason to go overboard with decorating when like you said, it will all change in the next few years. Might as well stay simple! Looks good! Our bedroom and bathroom need major help too but I just find it so overwhelming that I don't do anything haha. That's my January project!

  9. I love what you're planning on doing. I say go for it, and then post pictures here so I can draw some inspiration for my own house from it! =)

  10. I like the minimalist look in bedrooms, so I think with the pops of color from a fun rug and a few prints, you'll hopefully be much happier with the room, too!

  12. Don't fret, friend! You'll get there. : ) Decorating a home definitely takes time and is expensive. Love your inspiration board, check Ikea (Pinterest for inspiration) for white curtains, they have some great ones that look really nice but are pretty cheap. And Rugs USA is a great place to order rugs, I think I've seen one similar on their site and they are constantly having sales (like 20-40% off plus free shipping sometimes). Can't wait to see it all come together!

  13. I would paint that bedside dresser and buy some euro pillows for the bed. I think that will give you an instant update!

  14. I.so.feel.you.gf. you are doing the right thing to tackle each room one at a time, and it looks like you are doing it according to use/desire/importance-that's good too.

  15. hobby lobby! you could get a big canvas for your big wall and paint it however you like! even just splash your colors in cheap paint on the clean white palette....wish I was closer and we could have a craft day! loving that jar...

  16. LOVE what you have picked out! I also love how you find pieces that are unique. It is so fun to have something that you know didn't roll off of an assembly line and 1,000 other people have in their house. With that being said, I'm too lazy to dig, so I typically have the exact same Pottery Barn crap as everyone else. It reminds me of the Friends episode where Rachel tells Phoebe these made up stories about their Pottery Barn furniture.
