Christmas Porch

by Ally Harding, 5:00 AM
Our porch is literally the smallest porch in our whole neighborhood. And I know this because every time we walk around the neighborhood we always admire everyone else's huge front porch. So I can't do the lighted garland on the banister like everyone because I don't really have a banister. I have handles to help you walk up the porch steps. Here's my porch decorated for fall.

I wrapped lighted garland around the handrails last year and just wasn't happy with it. I felt like it looked cluttered since the porch is so freakin small. I told Theo I wanted to do something different this year but didn't know what. Thank god for the internet and the 5000+ images that popped up.

Can I just have this house? I love everything about it. I love how they loosely wrapped garland around the handrails and columns. If only I could find gorgeous garland like this...

This one if super simple but I love the look of real garland vs fake. I'm not too sure how to maintain real garland, do you water it?, especially with it getting 73 degrees this week. That stuff would die!

Real garland again but on the handrails this time.

I could just skip lighting the handrails and just do the actual porch like this picture. I really like this porch and we already have a lighted wreath on our door so we're 1/3 of the way there! How cute is the dog too?

I like the candles on each step in this porch. Once again where do you find this gorgeous garland from?? Does anyone know?!

I could always drape lights everywhere and blind my neighbors and probably get a notice from the HOA. But hey it's Christmas and tacky somehow works!

We'll be working on our porch this week/weekend so I'll reveal it next week!

  3. I love the real garland too!! When we lived in Florida, I just had a water bottle and would spray our wreath every other day to keep it from drying out, maybe that is something you could do with the garland here? Can't wait to see how it comes out!!

  4. I loved your inspiration photos! Our porch is tiny too so we can never do a whole lot with it. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

  5. Gorgeous faux garland is expensive but a good investment. This is the fourth year we've used ours. It's pre-lit with berries and pinecones. My wreaths have battery packs that you can time to only turn on when it gets dark outside. We got everything from Frontgate. Hobby Lobby has good stuff too. They already have huge sales on their Christmas decor because it's been up since Halloween! ;)

  6. I feel ya on the small/non-existent porch!! If I lived in a brown-stone (that I owned) I would most certainly decorate the crap out of the front lol! The one with the puppy is my favorite - I think one tree would be enough!! Can't wait to see what you decide!

  8. I love your little porch! I wish we had any outdoor space to decorate for Christmas but that's not really happening while living in an apartment in Chicago. That first inspiration picture totally reminds me of the house on the movie 'Father of the Bride'!

  9. My votes are for numbers 1, 4, and 5. No matter which you pick, you need to get Pixie to put a santa hat on and pose like the dog in the picture :)

  10. Love the garland/swag look. You can always go around your door with something fun, too. I'm thinking lights around our columns this year, but already have our live "H" wreath and a basket full of gold pinecones ready. Excited for the reveal!

  16. Your front porch may be little, but it's cute! I can't wait to see what you decide to do with it for Christmas. I love the look of the real garland; all of the choices (with garland, not lights, ha ha) are so pretty!
