Goals for 2014

by Ally Harding, 5:00 AM

I've never been one to make resolutions for New Years. I know personally if I decide to change my life drastically, like decide to work out every single day of the week, I set myself up for failure. There's no way I can change my life that much and think I can do it. It's not that I don't have faith in myself, but really I don't. If I don't work out now what makes me think on January 1st I'm going to start? So instead of screwing myself with resolutions before I even start, I decided to make up some goals I'd like to achieve for this coming year. They're just goals so if they happen then great, but if they don't then I won't sweat it.

{1} Attempt to work out a few times a week.

I hate working out with a passion but I always try to do something a few times a week, even if it's just walking my dog. I've always liked Bethenny Frankel's motto of, "Do what you can." She basically says don't beat yourself up if you miss a workout. And she always says sleep trumps working out. I love Bethenny!

{2} Eat healthy

Don't these 2 just go hand and hand? And aren't they everyone's goals for the year? Night shift has taken a toll on my body, a 5 lbs toll, and I've got to do something about it. I've already started by taking healthier options to eat at work and make sure I eat every few hours so that I'm not ravenous at the end of my shift and go to Chick Fil A on my way home. Ok, sometimes I do it anyways. :) I've also got to stop buying junk. Chips, chicken salad, you name it and I eat it. If you don't have it in your house you can't eat it!

{3} Have a clean house

Not to make excuses for myself but working at night and sleeping during the day = a messy house. Thankfully I have a clean freak husband who helps out too but we're both guilty of letting it get bad sometimes.

{4} Stop comparing myself to others, especially those I don't even know

As much as I love blogging it's also got it's faults. I'm very guilty of seeing what someone else owns on their blog and thinking I should own it too. Not even realizing we're in a different financial situation. We're all guilty of making our lives look pretty great on our blog, and it's our blog we can do it, but I get caught up in wishing my life was just as perfect and striving to find that perfection. I need to sit back more often and realize I'm very blessed with what I have.

{5} Save money
I saw this on Pinterest and thought it was neat.

Blogging has also lead to me to shopping a little too much and I know it. It's so easy to buy something on the internet, you just hit "Confirm Payment" and it's yours! I've already stopped shopping some, especially with OctNober and NOvember but I'm not going to lie I haven't stopped completely. And I don't plan on stopping completely. Remember what I said before about changing your life drastically, it only sets you up for failure. Instead I'm going to start putting more money in savings and less money towards shopping. Thank god I have a money smart husband to help me with this!

{6} Take a big trip this year

Luckily there is already a big one in the works, fingers crossed it works out! Another good reason to start saving more!

{7} Read more

I love reading but go through spurts where I'll read 2 books back to back and then won't read for months. I'd like to be continuously reading a book. They're so much better entertainment than watching Real Housewives of who knows where.

There's a few other Goals I have for this year but they involve sprucing up some parts of the house and making more time for Theo. He always says I spend too much time on the computer and I think he may be right!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years!

  8. Love all of these! I definitely will be stealing some of these from you. I completely relate to the not comparing yourself to others. This is on the top of my list for 2014! So easy to fall into that trap, and it doesn't do anything productive!

  9. Looove that money challenge! I think I'm going to do it! I definitely need to be better at saving more money and this is a nice way to ease into it haha. Can't wait to hear about your big trip! Have a happy New Year!

  14. Love these goals! Attainable but yet important :). Beautiful. Happy New year!!

  15. Love these goals!! Blogging and shopping is a very slippery slope- you have to be careful! I've been guilty of buying stuff I see other bloggers wearing when I don't need it or it doesn't fit me right. Also remember blogging is just a small snapshot of someone's life and not the whole picture :) My friends and I always joke that their should be a "real life" button on facebook or instagram so we can see what life is really like behind the fancy vacations and shopping sprees. I will admit I'm guilty of it too at times but I try my hardest to be as real as I can.

  16. Good luck with your goals. The new year can be such an inspiring time!
