Closet Dreams

A few weeks ago I did a major closet clean and got rid of 3 trash bags full of clothes. I say get rid of, I gave them to my mom. The point is I got rid of clothes that were either cheap, like F21 stuff, or stuff that I haven't worn in years. My goal for this year is to shop less but shop better, so therefore I want my closet to house nicer but fewer things. I really want to get all beige colored hangers and have everything hang nicely and uniform like this:

I've started to color coordinate my closet but I just can't figure out how I want to do it. You can either color coordinate everything, regardless of sleeve length, together and have it look like this:

But I think this looks uneven. All the shirts are different lengths. Or you could color coordinate your closet in sections, so tanks first, then short sleeves, then long. This is what I've started doing, but it's time consuming, and when half your hangers are wire and the other half are black velvet, it looks off.

My closet is a nice size, but as we girls know it can always be bigger. I'm lusting over these gorgeous, SPACIOUS closets.

I've been in love with Lisa Vanderpump's closet ever since they showed it on RHOBH

It would be really hard to leave.

Although Miranda Kerr's closet isn't huge, she lives in NYC, it's the one closet I'd love to shop within

Look at all those shoes and bags!

All these pics are really making me want to step it up in the closet department!
How do you have your closet organized?

  1. I have those hangers and I love them! So much better than plastic ones! Nothing ever slips off and it looks so neat.

  4. I dream of the day that I can makeover a huge closet - right now the husband and I share a small closet - it's miserable. I like to organize by rainbow order - dresses, then cardigans or long sleeved shirts, then short sleeved, then tanks. Everything else gets folded. But I am a sucker for consistent hangers - all of them must be black!

  5. You do not want to see our closet. Matt and I share it. Well he gets 1/3 of it and I have 2/3 of it. Ha. But it is a mess, and is also on my to do list.

  6. I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to my dream closet! Every time I organize my closet, it only lasts about a week before it is a mess again. I do love my cloth hangers- totally worth it. And I buy them over time at Target and Home Goods.

  7. Oh I love closest!!! I clean mine out every three months and really try to keep it organized - which is most certainly the hardest part. I keep mine separated with work clothes, dresses and everything else. It sort of works for the most part, but I need more space for sure. Miranda Kerr's is pretty clean considering she lives in NYC!

  10. I also color code, but I separate my work clothes from my casual clothes. For years, I had them all mixed together, but I found that I was forgetting about too many items that way.

    From left to right,
Blouses - color coded, no separation by sleeve length
    dress pants
    jackets
    shells
casual shirts - color coded, no separation by sleeve length
    casual pants

  11. I'm obsessed with pinning closets on Pinterest! Lisa Vanderpump seriously has a dream closet. I swear it's bigger than my apartment. I cleaned out my closet a couple months ago and it was SO nice! Now I just need to invest in some of those fancy hangers!

  12. Lisa's - and Yolanda's - closets are insane. I have all of my dresses in a separate close (thanks, Megan for the idea) and then everything organized by color in the master closet. So all red shirts, no matter the length of the sleeves are together, et cetera. The neutral hangers is a great next step for such a clean look.

  13. I have serious celebrity closet envy! I love purging through mine and getting rid of things I never wear. Most of my hand-me-downs go to my mom too!

ps: just saw on your last post that Madewell is coming to Charleston!! YAY!!

  14. I was pinning closets and had to stop because the majority of them were bigger than my condo. It does feel amazing to clean it out though right? I was doing so well until a certain somebody started bringing over his suits for work and I lost 1/4 of my space. Great work on yours!

  15. Like Shelby mentioned, I have a separate closet just dedicated to dresses (thank you, junk room) and Cameron and I also have separate closets. But 90% of the time my closet is a disaster. Mainly because I don't have a great system for my shoes. Those closets above are definitely drool-worthy.

  16. My closet needs a serious overhaul and it needs to be larger! I swear it was built for a baby! Hopefully we are moving sometime soon and I get a little more space!

  19. I used to color code my closet, but found organizing tops by sleeve length and type was more helpful! For example, I have it organized strapless, sleeveless, short sleeved, 3/4 sleeves, and long sleeved. Then within each category I have the tops organized by top. For example, all my silky tops are together, so when I'm in the mood for that look I can zero right in on the silky section of the 3/4 sleeved tops.

  20. I've organized my closet by tanks, short sleeves, long sleeves, sweaters, etc. So much easier that way. Plus during the winter I stick my nicer tanks, short sleeves in the back of the closet and vice versa for winter.

  21. I love these closets! If you have unused rooms in your house, you can transform it to a walk-in closet. Well, hope you have lots of clothes, shoes, and accessories to organize in those big and awesome walk-in closets. Hehe! :)

  22. I organize by sleeve length vs colors- I found it much easier that way! My closet is soo small (well for me it is) and I'm constantly thinking of ways we can renovate our master bedroom so I can make it bigger :)
