Weekend

First of all I got a new blog design! I was so over my last one and wanted something more mature and simple. I'm still tweaking it so it might change some but overall I'm happy with this design.

Call me crazy but I'm pretty happy the holidays are over. My work schedule has been out of whack and I'm looking forward to my normal schedule and to get on with my normal life. The holidays are fun but bittersweet when they're over.

We had a very low key weekend. Friday night Theo and I headed to an Irish pub in the Park Circle area called Madra Rua. I love going there because although I've never been to Europe, the owner of the pub is Irish so it has a UK pub feel to it. The past few times we've gone I've had a Ginger beer called Crabbies. I'm obsessed with it now. It tastes like an alcoholic ginger ale. Amazing.

Saturday we went to our friend's house and had a homemade hibachi dinner. Holy crap it was good. One of our friends got the actual recipe for white sauce and teriyaki sauce the make in Japanese steak houses.

Here's my plate. Don't judge me. Theo and I made a homemade ginger dressing for the salad. Looking at this picture is making my stomach growl.

Since I'm such a white sauce freak I stole the recipe. It doesn't have that much sugar in which was surprising. Oh but it does have mayo in it, lots of it.

Japanese White Sauce
1-1/4 cup Hellman's mayonnaise (it says you HAVE to Hellman's. It supposedly won't taste the same.)
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
dash cayenne pepper

Use a fork or whisk and blend all ingredients together until well mixed and the sauce is smooth. Refrigerate over night. Bring to room temperature before serving.

YUM!

I also wanted to mention that the Madewell Cargo Tunic Dress is till 40% off with code YESPLEASE. It's a super cute casual dress.

I'm so bad at taking selfies. In case you're wondering I ordered a size small and it fits great. I probably could have worn a medium for the length but then I think the dress would look like a bag on me.

I really wanted to start watching Downton Abbey this weekend. I had finally convinced Theo to watch it with me but now Netflix doesn't carry it anymore! Does anyone know of any other way to watch it? It's not On Demand.

Hope everyone has a great Monday! Stay warm Charleston peeps, it's going to 19 degrees tonight! BRRR!!

  7. I'm obsessed with ginger ale so now I'm going to be on the lookout for Crabbies! Yum! Have you ever had a moscow mule? Ginger beer with vodka.. so good. We watched seasons 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey on OnDemand so I'm really surprised it's not on there anymore! We had to buy the DVD of season 3 but got it super cheap on Black Friday. Hope you find a way to watch it - last night's premier was really good!
