Fright Night

by Ally- Life as I know it, 7:00 AM
Whenever people ask me how I'm able to watch scary movies, I always say with my fingers in my ears and my eyes squinted.  I can remember going to see The Ring on a school night and having to sleep with my light on all night. I don't think I got more than an hour of sleep that night. Even though they scare the bejesus out of me, I still love them and get so excited when a new trailer for a scary movie is on tv. I know most people don't care for scary movies but I figured since it's October and you're bound to watch at least one scary movie, even if it is just Hocus Pocus, I'd do a list of my top favorite scary movies.

I haven't seen this in a long time, but all I remember was it was so freakin scary. It's a remake of an old movie but was supposedly a true story. A family moves into a new house and strange things start happening. If you're looking for a real scary one, with some eye candy (Ryan soon-to-be-Daddy Reynolds) this is a good one. Sleep with lights on rating: 4/5

This movie was made over 20 years ago, but sometimes I think the older movies are scarier. I'll never forget after watching this movie with Theo, I was pretty shaken up and he thought he could scare me so he turned off the lights, ran out of the room, and slammed the door. I screamed bloody murder so much he said I sounded like I was possessed. Nope not possessed just scared out of my mind, you jerk. Sleep with lights on rating: 3/5

The Conjuring is like The Amityville Horror in that it's based off of a true story, supposedly. Whether it's true or not, I say no, it is really frightening. The new movie Annabelle is a spin off from The Conjuring. If possessions and spirits are your weakness, then watch this. Sleep with lights on rating: 5/5

This is another possession movie but has a different plot. A little boy goes into a coma and they find that he's living in a parallel universe. Sleep with lights on rating: 4/5

I never thought these movies would scare me so much, but they really did. The possession/spirits thing really gets me. My favorite is the second Paranormal Activity but the first is good too. As they go to the third and on they just lose their appeal. Sleep with lights on rating: 4/5

This really isn't scary, it's just a really good movie. Plus it has Johnny Depp in it. It's kind of nice watching a scary movie that doesn't leave you shaking and wishing you could erase what you just saw from your memory. Sleep with lights on rating: 1/5

This is one of those movies I still think about daily, because it could happen! A newly married couple goes to stay at their friends' house far away and start getting harassed by strangers.  Sleep with lights on rating: 4/5

This starts out as something and changes, which I really liked. 5 friends go to stay at a cabin for some R&R and learn that there's more to the cabin than they thought. It's actually more of a horror/comedy. Sleep with lights on rating: 1/5

This is one of my favorite movies ever. Imagine Love Actually but as a horror movie. It's a bunch of different stories that all come together at the end. A great movie to watch on Halloween! Sleep with lights on rating: 2/5

This reminded me a lot of The Strangers, until the plot twisted. I like scary movies that have substance instead of things just popping out at the screen to scare you. I liked this one a lot because it has cool family dynamic. A family all comes together for their parents' anniversary and there's typical family drama that arises. This is a good one. Sleep with lights on rating: 2/5

There are tons more I'd love to talk about but I'll spare you. You can't go wrong with any of these. I'd love to hear of any scary movies you recommend!

  2. I've only seen Paranormal Activity and The Strangers but oh my gosh, Strangers is TERRIFYING!!! I watched it like 5 years ago and still think about it all the time, too! My fall bucket list included watching one scary movie (all I can handle haha) so I'll have to pick a new one from here!

  4. Oh no girl - I can't even watch scary movies anymore!! If there is even a scary part in a movie that is like an action thriller I end up shutting my eyes and turning towards the wall...such a baby over here!

  5. I don't think Amityville horror would appeal to be without Ryan Renolds, but I actually own that one haha. Paranormal activity started out so good, but they got pretty ridiculous towards the end. The strangers looks very scary!

  6. I'm the same way! I LOVE scary movies but they always scare me to the point where I can't sleep. No idea why I continue to watch them but I do. I refuse to watch gory movies though. Never seen Saw and I never will! That isn't scary to me! Paranormal Activity was crazy! I just rented The Purge to watch this weekend... we'll see how it goes!
