My Favorite Costco Buys: Food

by Ally- Life as I know it, 5:00 AM
We shop at Costco A LOT and make a Costco run pretty much twice a month. For 2 people and 1 dog that's a little ridiculous. We get almost everything from there and their stuff is good quality and they have some awesome brands. They also sell tons of Organic foods which I love. Since we do shop there so much I figured I'd do a post on our favorite Costco buys. The things we tend to buy over and over. I will warn you, you can't go to Costco and not spend AT LEAST $100. It isn't possible, I've tried. Even if you go in for one thing, you come out with 5 and have spent $100. Of course it's all things you really need right?!

KIND Bars: These things are my savior when I'm at work and there's no time to eat lunch. This box has 18 bars and is $18.99 which sounds like a lot but normally they're $2 a piece! so you're getting a deal. The Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt are my favorite. My only wish is that they would switch up the flavors.

Crackers: The Food Should Taste Good Multigrain Cracker/Chips are Theo's favorite and Mary's Gone Crackers are mine. Both are great with hummus and the FSTG crackers are also great with salsa. Mary's Gone Crackers are usually pretty expensive, around $5.99 for a 6oz box, and this massive box of 2-10oz bags was only $8.99. The FSTG crackers are $5.99. You can't go wrong with either cracker.

Madras Lentils: These are the best. They're minimal ingredients and so yummy. We eat them with Mexican dishes, I'll even heat up a bag in the microwave and eat them as a snack. If you're a fan of Refried Beans like me, try these Madras Lentils. They're so good and healthy too!

Kirkland Organic Salsa: Theo's kind of addicted to salsa so one day we recently picked up a jar of Costco's brand salsa to try it out. You actually get 2 jars when you buy it. We were shocked with how delicious it is. It's the perfect amount of spiciness and has a great flavor. As you can see it lasts a long time too!

Wine: I like to pick up a bottle of wine every time I go to Costco. They have awesome prices on wine. I picked up these 3 bottles on my trip today and they were all on sale. One bottle was even $4.99 regularly $8.39. I don't spend too much on wine, and Costco is great for that because I know I can always get a bottle for under $10 and it's always good.

Hummus: Remember how I said Theo is addicted to salsa? Well I'm addicted to hummus. I could easily go through this huge container in a few days. And that's ok because it's only $5.99!

Frozen Mixed Berries: This bag is around $10 which is a pretty good deal for organic mixed berries. I try to make green smoothies daily so this bag is perfect.

Palermo's Frozen Pizza: I don't like to eat frozen pizza too often but if it's a night when we're running late and don't have time to make a nice dinner we'll pop one of these in the oven. This pizza is really good and tastes fresh for being a frozen pizza. It doesn't have tons of ingredients and is minimally processed. You can eat the whole pizza yourself if you wanted, it's only 700 calories! Another reason we buy it, aside from the fact it's delicious, we don't feel guilty about eating it!

Organic EVOO: I can't remember how much this bottle of EVOO cost but I want to say around $15-$20.  I know it's better to use higher grade EVOO and not let it sit around for months in a bottle but we use it so much so this bottle works for us. I use this for anything from cooking to dressing on salads.

Nature's Domain Dog Food: We were recommended this grain free dog food as soon as we got Pixie. Pixie tends to have allergies so I choose to buy grain free food. The dry food rates 3.5/5 on dogfoodadvisor.com and the wet food rates 5/5. If it was up to me I would spend $100 on Pixie's food because she gets ear infections so often and is always biting her paws but that just isn't practical so this food works. We always buy her Salmon and Sweet Potato and I like to think the Omega 3's from the Salmon make her coat shiny, who knows. This 35 lbs bag is only $32.99. The wet food is $19.99.

So those are most of my favorites at Costco. I'm going to do a post on my favorite non food items eventually. I'd love to hear what your favorite things to buy at Costco are!

  1. I don't know how I still haven't tried Kind bars but I need to. And that's a really good deal for those mixed berries, I need to pick some up so I can start making smoothies in the morning. And yes to the wine girl!!

  5. I wish we had a costco nearby but then again it's probably good we don't because I'd stock up on things I don't need LOL!! The salsa though - that is a really great buy - my husband would go through that in like a week!

  7. My mom gets a ton of stuff at Costco. Have you ever tried Boulder hummus chips? They are delicious! I like them plain, with hummus, salsa, and just about anything. My mom gets a huge bag from Costco every time she goes and it doesn't last a week in my house or hers.

  8. The past few weeks we've been debating whether or not we would really use a membership and this post alone may have convinced me! Aside from the dog food I want every single thing you posted!

  9. I love costco, but unfortunately the nearest one is an hour away! I still contemplate a membership, and more frequent trips to peoria, but for now I just go with my mom whenever we're visiting my family. I love sabra hummus too, and Zack seriously eats salsa almost every night so I will to pick up some of the Kirkland's brand to try. I would be a happy snacker at your house, we pretty much love all the same stuff! Jamo gets blue buffalo dog food (fish & oatmeal, yummy sounding right?), it's expensive but he's a picky eater so if we can actually get him to eat a bowl of food then I'm happy. Probably my fault for allowing him to like my plates clean.
