Christmas Break

by Ally- Life as I know it, 5:00 AM
It's always bittersweet when Christmas is over. I love this time of year so much but it's nice to get on with your regular life again. Christmastime is so busy and fast, I feel like I'm always trying to cram so much in! I'm still keeping with tradition and not taking the tree down till after New Years. Plus I'm not ready to get rid of it yet!

This past week and weekend were so much fun. Starting with church Christmas Eve then we had my mom and step dad over for pizza afterwards. I don't go to church but maybe two times a year but the Christmas Eve service is always my favorite.

I got lots of great gifts for Christmas but my new stainless steel cookware set was the one gift I was looking forward to the most.

I didn't realize what a learning curve it is going from using Teflon pans to stainless steel. The first time we used one of the pans we burned the bottom with olive oil. I see why people prefer non stick cookware to stainless, it's faster and obviously doesn't stick, but I'm looking forward to cooking without worrying about Teflon leaching in my food. Our old pans were gross and full of scratches.

We had Christmas dinner at my aunt's house and did the Chinese gift exchange again with everyone. This was our second year doing it with our whole family and it's always so much fun.

Friday, the day after Christmas, I went shopping with my mom and got some great deals at the Outlets. I got this top from J. Crew Factory for $20!

That night I met some friends out for drinks at a bar in Avondale called Gene's Haufbrau.

I wore my new Sabine Faux Fur Shearling Vest. It's such a great vest and looks so much more expensive than what I paid for it. I love how you can adjust the collar to your liking and it's incredibly soft.

Saturday called for lunch at The Southern General. Their chicken salad is the bomb.

Theo pulled out his inner Pioneer Woman and made some Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers for he and his friends while they watched the USC bowl game. I guess they brought good luck because the Gamecocks won!

I saw Into The Woods on Sunday and it was just ok. I was really looking forward to it and I read tons of reviews before I saw it to make sure I wasn't wasting my money and they were pretty accurate. It's pretty good until the last 30 minutes where it goes just plain weird. They really could have done without that last part. Although it's PG and made by Disney I don't recommend taking kids to see it. It's dark and kids would be bored out of their minds. They sing pretty much the whole time which didn't bother me but I could see a lot of people hating that about it.

I'm so happy to have another short week and can't wait for New Years Eve!

How was your Christmas?

  11. You look gorgeous in that picture with your mom! I've been wanting stainless steel cookware but had no idea that it has a bit of a learning curve. We always leave our tree up through New Years too but this year I had to take it down early because of Brady's obsession with it!!

  12. Love your new vest! And this is random but looking at that photo of you and your mom, I realized that she and I go to the same gym class every Tuesday...small world! And on another note, that chicken salad looks delicious. I've got the Southern General on my list of places to check out.
