Maternity Wear on a Budget

by Ally- Life as I know it, 5:00 AM
There's one thing everyone tells you when you start to spread the news you're pregnant, not to waste a lot of money on maternity clothes. I couldn't agree more since you only wear it for maybe 6 months, all depending on when you start showing. But there also comes a time when you have to buy something. I've found it's best to buy a few staples and just wear them over and over. I think I've built a pretty good collection of maternity outfits that should hopefully last me till this baby makes his appearance in October.

Old Navy Side-Panel Maternity Shorts in Aberdeen

I bought these before I even started showing and have been wearing them ever since. They're so comfortable and fit really well for Old Navy. I'm finding as I'm getting bigger that the side panel isn't stretching as much as I'd like and the front of the shorts are digging into my big belly when I sit down. I think these shorts are great for the 1st and 2nd trimester but I don't see them lasting me once the 3rd trimester comes.

I also own them in White

Target has a really good selection of maternity clothes for great prices. I love their tank dresses because they're comfortable and really show off the bump.

I own a couple of these side ruched tops from Target and they're really easy to throw on with shorts. You can tell they have a lot of give to them so I expect to wear them till the end.

I've been really happy with their bathing suits too. Plus it's so nice not having to worry about sucking your stomach in!

I wear this with a normal orange bathing suit bottom. It's really cute.

I bought a bunch of these Loft tops and so far they're working with the bump.

If you have a wedding or an event where you need a nice dress ASOS has a great maternity selection. I wore this black dress to a wedding a few weeks ago and it was very flattering, had a lot of give since it's jersey, and was perfect for a hot June night.

If you wear scrubs to work like me, I bit the bullet and finally ordered a pair of maternity scrub pants and they're like wearing pajamas. I was trying to hold out as long as I could but the time had come.

I wear my normal size Small in these but they do fit bagger than normal scrubs pants but who cares they're comfortable and they do the job.

Alright, anything else you momma's or momma's to be recommend?

  1. This is great! I feel like when I finally do get pregnant I'm not going to want to spend a ton on maternity clothes since you only wear them for 9+ months. I love that black dress you got!

  3. I love the striped dress you bought!! I heard a trick of just sizing up in shirts or getting larges so that you aren't buying maternity so you aren't spending as much - it's like when you're planning a wedding they hear that word and tack on 20% more lol! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  7. Thanks for the clothing ideas!! I wondered about scrub pants for work. I am still fitting into my regular pants but I do have a few that don't have a stretchy back so I am sure those will be the first to not fit! Oh...and buying that super cute black dress from Target ASAP! :)
