It's been a week but now I get to relax for the next 5 days at the beach! We're headed to Wrightsville Beach, NC today for my family's annual beach house. I'm so excited to get away but also a little bummed that I can't drink this year. Theo didn't make it any better when he brought home 2 big bottles of pre made Margaritas last night! Rub it in my face why don't you! Why happened to if I can't drink for 9 months, you can't either?! ;) Here's a recap of what's been going on this week:
~We had a great 4th of July at my parents' house this year.
Love this dress I got from Old Navy. It isn't even maternity and I'm wearing small. That's just how big their stuff runs!
~We watched a couple of good movies this week. Saw Me and Earl and The Dying Girl at the movie theaters and watched Enough Said at home.
Both were good but Me and Earl was pretty sad at the end, sorry it's that's a spoiler but the title kind of gives it away!
~I've moved from reading pregnancy books to reading parenting books. I overheard someone this weekend talking about their 8 year old son and how he's out of control and they don't know what to do. They're actually going to take him to counseling. It made me realize I have zero clue how to raise a child and would have no idea what do in their situation. I find myself thinking in my mind whenever I see a kid acting up how I would handle it better but I also know once you're in the moment and when it's your kid, it's much harder. I read Bringing Up Bebe which I loved and will probably read again.
The French seem to have it all together with their kids and it just comes naturally. There's some great tips in the book that just make sense.
I also started reading Strong Mothers, Strong Sons which sounds so silly I know but in reality boys are more likely to drop out of school, go to jail, and commit suicide than girls. The author of the book says it's because boys need a strong foundation at home, especially with their mothers. As I'm reading it, it definitely makes more sense on why men act the way they do. There's also Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters for dads to read.
I plan on picking up Moms on Call once the baby is born but any other parenting books you recommend?
~I can't wait to try this dip at the beach house. It's called "Skinny" but I think it's only as Skinny as you make it. It has fresh veggies in it too so it's totally healthy, right?

I really found happiest baby on the block to be helpful and The Wonder Weeks. Both of those are for the baby stages!

ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of really great things about Bringing up Bebe. I'm not at this stage yet, but I think I'll definitely prefer some French parenting methods over more of the helicopter-y ideas.
