2016 house plans

We've lived in our house for 3 1/2 years and it's definitely time to do some updating. My taste has changed since we moved in and I'm ready for some new decor. Starting with our kitchen:

I want to put some back splash on the walls and would LOVE to paint the cabinets white but that other person who lives in the house (my husband) says no. If I can get him on board with the back splash I think it will make a world of a difference. I'm thinking of doing beige subway tile like this:
I'm really embarrassed to show you these pictures. I hate how our half bathroom downstairs looks and think this will be our first project.

I want to put wallpaper and bead board up. I think it would look great for the small space. I also want to replace the mirror. This is what I'm going for:

On to our living room. There isn't too much I want to do in here but replace the wall art, the curtains, and get new pillows. We'd love to get a new rug too but isn't a top priority.

The wall above the couch is really big and we have 9 foot ceilings so whatever I put there needs to really fill the space. I like the idea of a big mirror with with two small lamps on either side.

As for the the big window, I'm not really sure what to put on either side of it. I thought about putting plates like this or stack some art work.

Lastly, our porch. My mom is buying us some bamboo blinds for Christmas and I want to get a big rug and recover the couch and chair cushions. We have two chairs that also sit on the porch but they're currently outside around out fire pit. We need to stain the wood and the porch could definitely use a fresh coat of white paint.

Help me out! Give me some ideas for our house! I'm pretty bad with interior design, as you can tell, so I welcome all suggestions!

  3. That is EXACTLY what I want to do to our half bath, too! It's going to be our January project because ours is in embarrassing shape as well so you aren't alone ;) Love the idea of the big mirror over over the couch and your porch sounds like it's going to be amazing!

  6. We built our house new 6 years ago and are in the middle of doing some touch ups and changing things up a bit. Nothing major, like renovations, as we're trying to sell - it's not our forever home!- but things to enjoy it in the mean time like new paint throughout and changing up wall decor. Makes a huge difference and your wish list looks realistic for making some quick changes that will help you love your home!

  7. Your half bath would look so great with those changes, though it looks nice now too!! Also Theo I know you are reading this... white cabinets and a backsplash would brighten up that kitchen and add tons of value!

  9. Cute home! Any freshening up always helps after being somewhere for a few years. We need curtains desperately but I don't care enough to spend the money on them...yet! PS - go for the backsplash first. We spent $600 on ours and it made the biggest difference.

  10. I love what you're planning on doing for your bathroom! There is so much pretty wallpaper out now. And I want white cabinets too. But a DIY paint job never looks as good as new white cabinet doors. For us it will have to wait until the next house!

  11. Love your ideas for the kitchen! I think the cabinets would look great painted white. I always find it helpful finding inspiration on Pinterest and recreating from there. However, my husband has actually done a lot of decorating in our home. It's a blessing and a curse. He has been wanting to make all the decision himself lately.

  12. Loving all of your ideas especially the backsplash in the kitchen, definitely something we need to focus on as well. And what's wrong with your half bath? It's super cute!
