goals for 2016

by Ally- Life as I know it, 5:00 AM
This has been a whirlwind of a year. I started out the year getting pregnant in January, then we lost a wonderful a co worker who was killed on her way home from work in March. I dealt with a job that had some major ups and downs regarding staffing all year long. If you work as a nurse also or even work in healthcare you know how rough it is when have no staff which unfortunately is common. Had my little Oliver in October, quit my job while on maternity leave and I start a new job in January. I'm so looking forward to a fresh start at a new place with new people. I'm sad my maternity leave is ending but my mom will be watching Oliver while I work so I know he's in good hands!

I like to set goals for myself each year. Here's my goals for the past 2 years Goals for 2015 , Goals for 2014I like to go back and read them at the end of each year and see if I had any success. They're always kind of the same which I guess means I don't follow through too well!

1. Read more

I went from reading pregnancy books the first half of the year to baby books the second half. I'm ready for something beyond baby but I've been out of the loop for so long, I don't know any good books! Give some recommendations!

2. Eat real food

I actually did really good with this one at the beginning of last year. Theo and I were eating mostly Paleo until I got pregnant and then it all went out the window. Now I'm breastfeeding and always starving so I don't see a strict Paleo diet working out too well but I do need to eat better. I use the whole "I'm eating for 2" excuse still and don't even second guess when it comes to eating junk. Thankfully breastfeeding burns tons of calories but that doesn't mean I need to eat lots of processed foods, which I do. Theo wants to eat better as well so that always helps!

3. Re vamp the home
I did a post on this already 2016 House Plans. For once I'm ready to get rid of the all Christmas decorations and start sprucing up my house!

4. Live in the moment

I'm SO guilty of wishing my life away. I'm always looking forward to what's to come in the future rather than enjoying what's going on right now. I spent the first 2 months of Oliver's life dreaming about when he's older because it was just so hard at first. I kept thinking "when he's 10 weeks it'll be so much better." I need to start realizing how good it is at the current time in my life and savor it.

5. Breastfeed for 1 year
This is what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends you do so it's my goal. I'm curious to see how my supply will do once I start working. But if we have to supplement with formula that's fine too. After a year I'm done though, I'm not going to be this chick. Sorry Oliver.

6. De clutter
Every closet in our house is full of junk. I like to think if you haven't used it or worn it in a year, get rid of it. The first closet I'm going to tackle is my own. I can't wait to go in there with a big trash bag and go to town.

Most important I'm going to enjoy my little love's first year of life!

What are some of your Goals for the New Year?

  1. Oh yes - being present is definitely on my list year after year - such a hard one for me for some reason!! I would like to declutter as well - can't wait to see how you do! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. Great goals girl! I need to join you on the eating thing. I've been so bad lately. And I haven't worked out in months... eek. I definitely need to declutter too! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  3. Did I somehow miss the new job? Congrats!! And how wonderful that your mom will be with Oliver! Living in the present is SO hard and I find myself going back and forth wanting to move to our new location and not wanting Emma Grace to grow up (obviously conflicting wishes!). Have you read all the books by the woman who wrote Still Alice? I haven't read any yet but my mom highly recommends them. I also want to read a book called Orphan Train. Good luck with your 2016 goals - sound very doable!

  4. Oh my gosh that picture of Oliver is TOO CUTE. I can't handle it :) I say no to the paleo! I need someone to eat cheese pizza with me (besides my husband). And amen to de-cluttering. Once you have a baby the clutter just multiplies times ten!

  5. Love this - and I cannot wait to read a book that has NOTHING to do with parenting or pregnancy! I'm really hoping to breastfeed for a year as well.

  6. I have so many of the same goals! I just spent the last two hours searching for entertainment centers online, haha - I'm feeling major pressure to get the house in order with a baby coming now. As for reading, I really enjoyed Liane Moriarty's books and The Royal We was probably my favorite book I read all year!

  7. Decluttering is so good for your mind, I did a lot of that this past month and it really helped relieve some of the stress and tension I have. I also have re-sold some of that "clutter", which is an added bonus!

  8. great goals! i need to work on decluttering too... that baby stuff piles up fast. xo jillian

  9. Love these goals!! I need to write mine down for 2016. We are working on major decluttering around here this year. Kyle and I are both bad with clutter. Good luck with breastfeeding for a year!! You can do it! I've been reading lots of trashy romance novels with my kindle unlimited subscription (don't judge!!) they're a nice distraction and easy to read when my brain is mush from dealing with kids all day.

  10. Oh my that picture of the standing child just horrified me but thankfully you finished it off with that sweet boy. I'm a big look to the future planner person so I'm with you on trying to live in the moment as well!

  11. These are all so great and so practical! I think you'll rock these! I can't wait to see what you do with the house and congrats on the new job!!

  12. Cheers to a year of good books and good food! Happy New Year!

  13. Great goals! And what a cute pic of Oliver! Hope you had a great NYE!
