five on friday

1. I've been following a few blog/Instagram and Snapchat accounts lately that I'm pretty obsessed with. Tess got me hooked onto the blog Happily Eva After and I also love following her on Snapchat as well (HappilyEva).

Eva Amurri Martino, aka Susan Sarandon's daughter, is a fairly new mommy and has tons of great posts on her blog about life with a new baby. And you gotta read her post Nannygate 2.0 about her nanny who was trying to sleep with her husband Kyle!! Eva tells it like it is, which I love. Sometimes reading all these mommy blogs about how perfect their lives are and how the kids just somehow do everything right, really gets old. It's like who are you trying to fool!

I found Hunters and Heels on Instagram (@Huntersandheels) and instantly started stalking everything Lauren does.

But what really sucked me in was that she has a little baby boy named Oliver James too! It's my Oliver's twin in England! Ok not really but I like to think so. She takes the most beautiful pictures for her blog and IG. They're very whimsical and light and airy. And how amazing is the swing she has in her Oliver's nursery?!

2. Speaking of Oliver, my crazy kid has decided to boycott sleeping every.single.night and fusses and screams for a good 1.5 hours till he passes out. There is absolutely nothing Theo and I can do. We try to shush him, pat him, sing songs, pick him up, but as soon as we lay him back in his crib, he starts fussing all over again. I've even tried putting him down earlier, later, nothing makes a difference. So we've started muting the monitor and just going on with dinner and not stressing about it. Eventually he does fall asleep but it's like he has to figure how to do it on his own. I love him like no other but man does he keep us on our toes! Just when we think we've got it all figured it, he decides to switch it up. But on the flip side, he hasn't been waking at night anymore for a feed. So I guess you take some you lose some. It can't be 100% perfect right?!

Oh and he's also learned how to lift the tray on his Mamas and Papas seat. So something I thought I could put him in while I cooked and cleaned the kitchen, is now a danger. Great.

3. If you have young kids, sign them up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!! It's a free book every month till they turn 5. And they're pretty awesome books too. This was this months book.

I think reading is so important. Even at 5 months old I read to Oliver every night before bed. Even though he has no idea what I'm reading he's hearing me read with different tones in my voice and learning what different words mean. Plus it's a great bonding time and he loves to put the books in his mouth. :)

4. I was going through my closet last weekend to find summer clothes to wear since it's been 80 degrees here, and all I found was maternity clothes and over sized dresses. Which means I have the perfect excuse to buy new clothes. I'm pretty good with shorts but I need tops and dresses. Lots of cotton and machine washable. I have a baby who puts way too much in his mouth and is always covered in drool to wear anything really nice.

5. I'm no longer breastfeeding at all and am only pumping twice a day but am slowly ending that as well. I decided to take my time with stopping because I didn't want to end up with mastitis again plus I wanted Oliver to still get some breast milk each day. I kind of thought I would be more sad than I am about ending it all, but I'm really not. I feel like I'm finally getting my life back together and Oliver is doing great with bottles and formula. Not stressing about making enough milk while I'm at work is such a relief. I'm just so glad I was able to get this far and that he's been able to have breast milk for almost 6 months. The only thing I'm really sad about is I no longer have an excuse to eat whatever I want!
Yup, gonna miss that!

We have a ton of cleaning to do and getting the house ready for next weekend. Theo's family is coming in town for a wedding and we have zero time during the week to get anything done! Have a Happy Easter!

  4. Sorry about Oliver and sleep- ugh! At least he's sleeping through the night now?! Does he have a lovie in his crib? 6 months is right about when I started letting my boys have a lovie or stuffed animal and helped them both tremendously with sleep. My boys need something to cuddle/rub while they soothe themselves to sleep. Way to go on 6 months of breastfeeding- that's how long I made it with both my boys and I felt such relief to be back to myself. I found I was a much better mom when I could just be me and not feel a human dairy farm.
