five on friday

Happy 4th of July weekend! I've been waiting for this weekend because I have 4 days off and I can't wait to spend it with Oliver. We don't have any big plans just swim lessons on Saturday and a night out downtown with friends that night! Oh and hopefully catching up on sleep. I am so exhausted at the end of the day but as soon as I get into bed I start to mess around on my phone and before I know it, an hour has passed! So just looking forward to enjoying the weekend with my little family! What have you got planned?

This article was being passed around Facebook last night and I loved it so much I just had to share. It explains perfectly the battle between being a SAHM vs a working mom. Each job has it's pros and cons of course but at the end of the day, we're all just trying to be the best moms we can be to our babies. Becoming a mom is the hardest job I've ever done before and unlike my job as an RN, I can't clock out at the end of my shift. But it's my favorite job and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Honestly I used to get so upset about having to go to work everyday and I felt like my mom was seeing my child more than I do, since she watches while I'm at work. But instead of feeling sorry for myself I decided to change my attitude and to make the time we are together special and always try to be present with Oliver. It's the quality that matters the most.

Oliver is all over the place these days and as soon as I saw him almost put a handful of rocks in his mouth from our fireplace, I knew I needed a playpen STAT. So now we have this massive piece of furniture taking up all the space in our living room. But it is SO nice being able to place him in his playpen and not worry where's he's going to crawl to and if he's going to stick his finger where it doesn't belong!

We have a family 4th of July party on Mondayand I can't wait to wear this dress

Loft has become my go to for clothes lately. They currently have everything 50% off with code JULY4TH. Some other dress favorites for the 4th:

Icebox cakes are my favorite to make because they're so easy but taste like you've been slaving away in the kitchen all day. I plan on making this Red, White, and Blueberry Icebox Cake for the 4th. I love that this recipe is dairy free!

Side note, I went to the dermatologist for a skin cancer check this week and I mentioned to her my ongoing battle with hormonal acne and surprisingly the first thing she asked was if I quit dairy. I rolled my eyes and nodded my head because I always try to eat less dairy. I know it breaks me out but do you know how hard it is to say no to cheese?! But after I got confirmation from the Dr, I decided this is it, no more dairy. :(

I just wanted to thank you all for the emails and comments about wanting to still read my blog if I go private. To be honest I really wondered if anyone even read my blog anymore so all of your kind emails made my week! For now I'm keeping it public, but I am going to be more mindful about posting pictures of Oliver on here.

Have a wonderful weekend and a fun 4th!

  3. I always forget about the great stuff Loft has!! Those dresses are all so cute. The working mom/SAHM stuff is never going to go away I'm afraid but I am glad it seems to be leaning MORE towards "we're all doing our best" these days. Have a great holiday weekend, girl!
